About My Clients
Typically, my clients are struggling in their relationships with their bodies and with food. They are looking for support and encouragement to be able to stay off the dieting and exercise merry-go-rounds, and to re-establish self-trust. I believe I can be especially helpful because I've been there myself and have worked, and continue to work through the very same issues. If you're interested in working with me, please give me a call for a free phone consult.
My Background and Approach
I am specializing in working with clients who are challenged by disordered-eating and body dissatisfaction, as well as the anxiety and depression that may accompany these issues. I work collaboratively with clients to help them address, at their own pace, their self-determined needs and wants. I provide support and guidance as they reclaim their innate ability to guide and support themselves. My treatment framework is informed by Intuitive Eating, Body Trust, Health-at-Every-Size, and social justice principles. I am certified as a Body Trust Specialist. I have been a practicing psychologist for over 20 years.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I truly believe that when we are "embodied," that is, well-connected to our intuition and body's wisdom, we make the best choices and take the best care of ourselves. Everybody needs a good listening to. Psychotherapy provides a safe place to be heard, supported, and validated, as one is working through whatever issues arise. I pride myself on being an accessible, practical, and down-to-earth psychologist, who views laughter and humor as important therapy tools. I acknowledge and do work around my privileged identities of being a cis-gendered, Native American passing as white, able-bodied, small fat person. I realize that I may not be the best fit for every client and their maximum healing. In my free time I love to walk, practice T'ai Chi, read, and watch movies.
