About My Clients
This type of therapy works best for those who have a good set of coping skills (usually having been in traditional therapy a while), a relatively stable support system, and are feeling stymied by old trauma or just feel "blocked". I also offer assessments/evaluations and letters of referral for gender-affirming procedures.
My Approach to Helping
I do not offer typical "talk therapy." The predominant modality I use is EMDR mixed with IFS ("parts work"). Why IFS? We have distinct parts of ourselves that many of us reference without even realizing it (“I want to stay in, but a part of me wants to go out”). Each part has their own set of character traits and perceptions of the world, which can result in that feeling of inner-conflict and overwhelm, especially when those perceptions are at odds. These warring parts have usually developed due to trauma and attachment wounding, which can be traced back to specific memories that these parts feel stuck in. During EMDR we use IFS to help liberate these parts, releasing them from those painful memories.
My Values as a Therapist
I understand that systemic oppression adds daily trauma to our lives— counseling shouldn’t add to that trauma, but it often does. I will continuously strive to honor and maintain a sacred space for you in counseling through a commitment to social justice, cultural humility, and honest self-reflection.
