About My Clients
This type of therapy works best for those who've already started their journey of self-discovery and growth, have a good set of coping skills (usually having been in traditional therapy a while), but are now feeling stymied by old trauma or just feel "blocked".
My Approach to Helping
We have distinct parts of ourselves that many of us reference without even realizing it (“I want to stay in, but a part of me wants to go out”). Each part has their own set of character traits and perceptions of the world, which can result in that feeling of inner-conflict and overwhelm, especially when those perceptions are at odds. These warring parts have usually developed due to trauma and attachment wounding, which can usually be traced back to specific memories that these parts feel stuck in. During therapy, we will embark on a journey to liberate these parts, releasing them from those painful memories. While staying connected with each other, with a sense of curiosity and creativity, my clients and I go on an inner-adventure to discover and work with parts of themselves that need attention and healing. From an attachment-based framework, I use Internal Family Systems (IFS), EMDR and somatic therapy as our guide.
My Values as a Therapist
I understand that systemic oppression adds daily trauma to our lives— counseling shouldn’t add to that trauma, but it often does. I will continuously strive to honor and maintain a sacred space for you in counseling through a commitment to social justice, cultural humility, and honest self-reflection.
