About My Clients
I work with clients of all ages, backgrounds, and styles of neurodivergence. Many of my clients are queer, dealing with personal and relational issues in addition to real fears about the world and current US government. We work on maintaining health and love in life while working together to improve conditions for those around us. I'm a progressive therapist. Pro drug and drug safety, pro sexual liberation and sexual safety, and pro spirituality in a religiously polarized country.
My Background and Approach
I come from an education background, and a series of mentors and personal experiences brought me to the mental health field. I'm a relaxed person, but I take my therapeutic work and training very seriously. In my spare time I play guitar and drums, go to shows, swim at Rockaway, and read books about counseling theory, magic, and spirituality. I definitely draw a lot from psychodynamic theory and analysis, as well as third-wave cognitive therapies like ACT, somatic practices like somatic experiencing and grounding, and existential therapy focused on the fears of death, isolation, meaninglessness, and freedom. All of my work is in relation to the systems in which we live, and honors the lived experiences of my clients first and foremost.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
This country is designed to systemically marginalize non-White non-cisgender people. While individual therapy sessions are focused on your individual reality, we must address the dangerous political realities emerging in the current administration. Therapy is not our only tool against oppression, but it does connect the personal to the political and allows us to heal on our own while serving the healing of those around us. In therapy we deprogram ourselves and expand our consciousness to see and value all forms of life outside our own margins and perceptions. I also believe that all humans can benefit greatly from wrestling with the four existential fears: death, isolation, meaninglessness, and freedom. We use psychodynamic inquiry to understand how these fears drive us and our neuroses, and apply radical acceptance to free ourselves from the damage of unnamed existential fear and anger.
