About My Clients
I work with all different relationships. My approach is rooted in IFS relationship therapy (called Intimacy from the Inside Out). I have experience working with monogamous, ethically nonmonogamous, and polyamorous relationships, and I’ve helped couples as they move from one kind to another. Our work together will provide ways to communicate so that you hear what is alive in each other as a gift.
My Background and Approach
I’m a Level 3 Internal Family Systems practitioner, providing therapy through the Center for Mindful Psychotherapy, and I assist in the IFS Institute’s Level 2 trainings of psychotherapists. I’m also a Professor in the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences at University of California San Francisco where I'm co-founding a Center on IFS and Culture. IFS is a method for going inward and getting to know and welcome all parts of you. Every one of us is trying in the best way we know how, under the conditions in which we find ourselves, toward a positive purpose. To flourish. We all have a creative power within us that is our birthright, that knows how to heal and that cannot be damaged. In my work, I help you connect with that power inside yourself. My full fee is $250. I use a tiered sliding scale and currently have openings for couples' therapy at $100 per 80-minute session.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I began focusing on couple's work as I learned how powerful non-pathologizing therapy could be for relationships. I have worked with couples across a range of difficult experiences, including discordant attachment styles, infidelity, parenting and co-parenting hardships, substance use, anger issues, and overwhelming stress. Any relationship can get stuck in patterns. Therapy offers a means to move out of these patterns and feel a sense of connection. I provide therapy through the Center for Mindful Psychotherapy. I offer in-person therapy at my office in San Francisco and online throughout California. I affirm all different racial, gender, and sex identities. For more about me: ianwhitmarshpsychotherapy.com
