About My Clients

I specialize in working with children and adolescents, as well as with adults who have experienced trauma. Working with children and adolescents gives me a unique perspective to help adults addressing childhood trauma. I aim to create a safe, warm, empathetic space so you or your child/adolescent can find relief and power in sharing your story. In addition to traditional talk therapy, I offer experiential activities, animal-assisted counseling, and play therapy.

My Background and Approach

I hold a Doctoral Degrees in Psychology (PsyD) and received specialized training in the treatment of children and adolescents in graduate school. I have had additional training in several areas in which I hold certifications. These include Animal-Assisted Counseling (AAC), Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), the Trauma-Conscious Yoga Method (TCYM) and Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI). I am also a certified Positive Discipline Peer Educator and have had training in the Nurtured Heart approach. I have worked in juvenile halls, residential treatment, and various outpatient settings. During my time in outpatient settings, in addition to treating children, I have gained experience in helping adults who have experienced trauma. While I have education and certifications, I believe connection and trust with the client is the most important aspect of therapy. I take a strengths based approach and aim to create a space where one feels seen and validated.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I believe when we know better, we do better. A lot of us have not been taught how to regulate our emotions, how trauma impacts us, or ways to parent our children in a manner that creates connection rather than disconnection. Part of my goal as the therapist is to help clients and parents understand the reasoning behind their or their child's behaviors better, reduce shame around the behaviors, and learn more adaptive behaviors. I believe that therapy can be more than talking. It can include nature, art, movement, writing, or playing with an animal. Therapy can also collaborate and it can be beneficial to integrate various parts of your life into therapy in a way that feels comfortable to you. I believe that our behavior does not define us, all of us are capable of change, and everyone wants to be heard, seen, and understood. I believe that we all deserve to feel safe, content, and valuable.
