About My Clients

If you've ever had your broken relationship with food/body dismissed, overlooked, minimized, or even encouraged, due to living in a larger body, there's a special place here for you. I love supporting folks who've been burned by the church, or who are wrestling with faith deconstruction, or who need treatment for religious trauma. Many of my clients have been told they're "too much" or "attention-seeking" or "noncompliant." I don't buy that. Let's get to the root of things together.

My Background and Approach

I'm an integrative therapist, which means that I intentionally weave together several approaches to tailor the therapy to each client's needs. Here are the 4 I use most: Person-centered therapy: I create a safe therapeutic connection and space, so that your psyche's natural drive toward healing can do it's thing. This approach also emphasizes authenticity - I'm a real person in my sessions, not a blank slate! IFS: I use the language of "parts" of you in order to better make sense of your inner world. This also helps you solidify your sense of your core Self, which helps with identity development and self-worth. ACT: Acceptance and commitment therapy promotes facing our feelings, rather than avoiding them. It also points us toward actions and choices that reflect our values, no matter what feelings and thoughts are bombarding us. EMDR: A research-backed approach for reprocessing traumatic memories, so they no longer get in your way - without needing to retell your story in detail.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

1) Weight-inclusive: I celebrate the wide variety of body shapes and sizes (yes, even yours!), and I understand that weight doesn't indicate health or worth. I also recognize that our society is full of anti-fat bias, and I support you in navigating these unique harms. 2) Trauma-conscious: Whether it was one, big, impactful experience, or a chronic, toxic environment, I anticipate and am prepared for all kinds of trauma, including intergenerational, racialized, religious, and attachment trauma. I also love helping adult children of emotionally immature parents to process and manage these relationships and experiences. 3) Identity-responsive: When I say "every body" psychotherapy, I mean it - chronically ill, disabled, neurodivergent, BIPOC, LGBTQ+, you name it - you belong here. I expect your unique experience of moving through the world to impact our work together. No matter what challenges, oppression, and marginalization you experience, YOU can be a safe place for your own body.
