About My Clients
My clients often feel stuck in painful patterns and need to learn how to move on. I help clients deal with intrusive thoughts, distressing emotions, or simply feelings numb. Some clients are managing pain or chronic fatigue, and I support them with the emotional aspects of a holistic pain management approach. Others are recovering from addiction, and need support with long term maintenance.
My Background and Approach
I am a licensed professional counselor treating mental health and addiction in New Jersey. My approach is to help clients understand beliefs that are guiding their behavior and emotional reactions, develop their ability to notice and tolerate emotions, and build motivation for healthy changes. I have worked extensively with folks dealing with trauma, addiction, and anxiety disorders to identify triggers and develop more mindful responses that help them grow and thrive. I focus on how trauma impacts our relationship at work, at home, and in the wider community. I am also trained and qualified to provide mental health assessments for immigration proceedings. In my work not only do I help client's build insight on their internal psychology, but also on how systems of power exists in their lives, and impact their mental health.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe that all people deserve equality, justice, and peace but that we live in a world that make that very difficult. I became a counselor because I saw it as a tool that helps people find greater peace, understanding, and control in their lives both through deepening our connection to our inner life, and through identify external factors that are working against us. In my career I have focused on developing the knowledge and skills needed to make counseling available, safe, and effective for people form all walks of life including people of color, folks on the LGBTQIA+ spectrum, and those dealing with displacement, or migration. As a counselor I have observed the ways that people adapt to there circumstances best they can, and the frequency that past trauma impacts our past development and present circumstances, often in ways that go unseen. In response to those observations I have invested further time and training into treating addiction as a way to become more effective.
