About My Clients
I am passionate about mental and emotional health, and enjoy having a diverse range of clients. Grief, women's mental health, gender-based pressures and complex trauma are some of the themes I gravitate towards. Regarding grief processing. I'm not only referring to death and dying, but other losses that often leave a profound impact, such as the breakup of an intimate relationship. I also enjoy connecting with fellow immigrant women and helping them navigate the unique challenges they face.
My Background and Approach
I have a Master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. My approach to therapy is multilayered. Trauma-awareness, congruence and gentle confrontation are some of the main elements I bring into my sessions. I use psychotherapeutic interventions based mainly on the well-structured frame of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). Another layer of my approach is looking into the mind-body connection. We all have intellectual, mental narratives - how do those stories live within the body? What emotions do they provoke and what meaningful messages do they tell me about my life? How do they reflect on behavior? I believe that so-called "maladaptive behaviors" and other struggles are often coping mechanisms developed to survive unhealed trauma and difficult life experiences. Considering that each individual has their own history and context, I strive to get to know the person and develop a foundation of trust. From there, we can explore and process anything the client may need.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
Ever since I can remember, I cared about others' suffering and wanted to find ways to help. Because social justice has always been important to me, I thought becoming a lawyer with a focus on human rights was my calling; so I went after a Law degree. Upon facing some hardship, a shift happened within me. Some of my emotional wounds came to surface, and I could no longer pretend they weren't there. I needed support and self-care, before I could feel apt to help others. Through introspection and feeling a deeper connection with myself, I decided to pursue a career in the mental health field. This is the short version, but in sum: it's been the right choice for me. Although equity and justice may seem like utopic aspirations (considering the world’s state of affairs), being able to offer support to one individual at a time is doable; and it carries a lot of meaning.
