About My Clients
I work primarily with young adults, adults, and adolescents as they navigate anxiety, perfectionism, and relationship impasses. These concerns often arises from experiences of trauma or challenging family or social dynamics like oppression and discrimination that have pushed folks to overachieve, meet others needs first, or lose their sense of self. I also often work with couples as they navigate shifting relationship dynamics that occur over time in any relationship.
My Background and Approach
My goal for any individual therapy client is for them to gain a more honest relationship with themselves so that they can live a life that is more authentic and grounded in what they want versus what they believe others want. I utilize a trauma-informed, relational approach to therapy which means that I focus on the client-counselor relationship - as well as the relationships around you, currently or in the past. I believe that by reflecting on these experiences, we can see how ideas about ourselves, our values, self-worth, and place within the world and in our relationships developed. I believe that we do this hard work together by creating a warm, inclusive space that is also honest and brave. This approach naturally lends itself to my work with couples - as my goal is to have couples more openly express their needs and examine how relationships with family and partners impact their current dynamic. I also have training in CBT for insomnia. I integrate psychoeducation, ACT, and DBT
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I identify as a queer non-binary, genderfluid femme and strongly support the liberation of BIPOC, Queer, and all marginalized people. As someone who also holds the privilege of a White identity, I approach my work with humility - attempting to understand the lived experiences of people outside my race, culture, and ethnicity through my own relationships and an understanding of the unique experiences of each client. As someone that finally recognized the expansiveness of their gender later in life, I recognize the deep pain of attempting to fit into others' expectations. My professional experiences working with survivors of intimate partner violence, state-sanctioned torture, childhood abuse, and those experiencing socio-political trauma - BIPOC, LGBTQ+, and immigrants/refugees has also given me an expansive view of trauma and resilience, and the need to heal as individuals as well as healing as a community. I make it a point to engage in mutual aid and community actions.
