About My Clients

It's common for everyone to encounter some degree of depression or anxiety in life. However, when these feelings become overwhelmingly intense and start affecting our daily lives, therapy becomes a valuable resource. Examining current behaviors with empathy can provide a supportive and understanding guide as you navigate the therapeutic journey toward healing.

My Background and Approach

With over a decade in the helping profession, I've had the privilege of working with children, teens, and adults. My approach involves viewing situations through a multicultural lens, enabling me to understand clients' needs through active listening, empathy, and a non-judgmental perspective. Specializing in EMDR, CBT, Solution Focused Treatment, and Mindfulness, I concentrate on addressing clients' present needs to foster trust within the therapeutic relationship. My extensive experience encompasses trauma treatment, anxiety, depression, mindfulness, and substance abuse. A key aspect of my practice involves utilizing an EMDR lens to desensitize and reprocess negative cognitions, avoiding unnecessary re-traumatization. EMDR, distinguished from traditional talk therapy, offers a uniquely effective treatment approach. I earned my Master's of Arts in Counseling from Loyola Marymount University in California, and I am licensed in both California and New York.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I'm Patricia Alvarado, the Founder and Director of Alvarado Therapy, a group practice based in California. My focus is on understanding the root causes of stressful situations and maladaptive behaviors. By employing active listening, empathy, and a non-judgmental approach, my goal is to collaboratively establish trust within the therapeutic relationship. Drawing from my experiences volunteering on the Suicide Prevention Hotline, working in various shelters in Los Angeles, including the Downtown Women's Shelter, and being a Latina myself, I approach situations through a multicultural lens, offering diverse perspectives to your personal experience. If you're interested in learning more about me and exploring the possibility of working together, please feel free to send me a message. I'm here to address any additional questions and ensure that this process is as comfortable as possible for you.
