About My Clients
I work with adults who are experiencing depression, anxiety, stress, burnout, and significant life transitions. I help clients learn and strengthen coping skills, develop resilience, and change emotional or behavioral patterns that are not serving them. When appropriate, I also help clients make the kind of changes that bring their lives more in line with their values and goals.
My Background and Approach
My approach to therapy is client-centered, compassionate, and evidence-based. I draw from several modalities largely under the umbrella of cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), while being grounded in an overall humanistic, trauma-informed approach. I do this work in a few different ways. You might be someone who is interested in having open-ended conversations to talk about how things are going or to review behavior or relationship patterns you would like to change. Some people prefer to have a more focused approach, learning techniques to reduce anxiety, improve mood, or increase energy and address bothersome symptoms directly. Lots of people benefit from both! I’ve also spent many years working in health care, and while I cannot give medical advice, I am very comfortable discussing medication. My clients and I set goals together, and we work towards them collaboratively.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe that each of us comes into the world with the drive and ability to connect, create, and experience joy. I believe that most “unhealthy” behaviors start out as strategies for adapting or surviving, and that as we grow, we can learn new strategies for thriving. I also believe that many of the demands of modern work and family life, not to mention the stresses of the social and political context, can trigger inherited stress responses not meant for the modern world. I have seen how gaining an understanding of those responses can help us redirect energy to activities that are more resonant with our values. I value humility and collaboration in my work, and I welcome individuals across diverse identities and experiences.
