About My Clients
Being vulnerable, feeling safe, laughing, and pushing past the distress are just a few of the moments that are shared in the therapeutic relationship journey. I often work with individuals, children, families and couples who feel lost and hopeless after experiencing trauma or feeling stuck by perpetuating issues. I work with individuals to help identify ways to have these "rocks" removed and develop plans that could be accessed outside of our therapy sessions.
My Background and Approach
My style is one of openness, warmth, compassion, non-judgement and humor. I tell my clients; you are driving the car and I am a passenger and together we are deciding which road to take, why are we here, and how did we get here. I integrate trauma modalities, behavioral treatment, psychodynamic approaches, and sensory integration to guide progress.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I come from a Puerto Rican family that has anxiety and depression evident. Any mental health symptom that was experienced was something that you do not talk about and even less likely to talk to a therapist about. Growing up and experiencing my own traumas, I wanted to be able to not only change the idea of therapy in communities of color, but to be able to have all individuals who are experiencing distress to not suffer in silence by being given tools and feeling a sense of hope. My greatest gifts and joys are passing on the knowledge that I have gained to my clients and those that I supervise to help survive and succeed through life’s various challenges. I am allied with the LGBTQIA community and pride myself on ensuring that human rights, love, advocacy, and increasing awareness in tolerance is part of my values and work. I also provide pro bono support to groups like The Youth Center in order to give a voice to migrant children.
