About My Clients
I primarily work with educators, parents, and people in other helping fields who care deeply about what they do, but are experiencing the negative consequences of high emotional investment work: burnout, anxiety, guilt, perfectionism, people-pleasing, etc. Does it ever feel like no matter how hard you're working, you are still failing to meet somebody's expectations (maybe your own)? Or that your plate is just constantly overflowing? If this sounds familiar and you're ready for change, read on!
My Background and Approach
Before entering private practice, I worked in school-based therapy and social work for 8 years, and understand intimately the unique joys and stressors of working in education and behavioral health. When working with clients, I customize treatment for each individual and their circumstances. I draw from therapeutic modalities and interventions including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Attachment theory, and feminist/systems theories. In therapy together, we may work on developing new, practical self-care skills that fit your current situation, examine systems and beliefs that contribute to your feelings of stress, anxiety, and/or guilt, all with the goal of cultivating a more gentle and loving relationship with yourself.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe in therapists being transparent with potential clients about their identities and values, in order to help foster a safe and strong therapeutic alliance. Our relationship as therapist and client is the most important thing here! I am a straight, white cis-woman, and I identify strongly with progressive political views. I am a therapist who goes to therapy and lives with OCD and anxiety. I am queer-, trans-, and BIPOC allied, and neuro-affirming. As a social worker (and undergrad sociology major), I have had extensive training and continuing education on issues of social justice. I specifically identify as a feminist therapist. To me, this means that I acknowledge the existence of and actively work against the systems of inequality in our society, including patriarchy, white supremacy, capitalism, etc. When appropriate, I bring this lens into our therapy to examine the impact that these systems can have on an individual's mental health, identity, relationship to work, etc.
