Addiction counseling/therapy isn't just for those afflicted with the disease, but also for those affected by the person's disease; mother, wife, son, daughter, husband, cousin, boss, etc. Addiction is plagues a person's entire family system. In this counseling an integrative approach will be used based on individual need. This means we could work CBT, relational therapy, & a host of other ways to increase clarity, boundaries and well-being.
Existential Therapy (ET)approach asserts people experience intrapsychic conflict due to their interaction with certain conditions inherent in human existence. In other words, a person has discord in their life either related to the world around, extrinsically, or within, intrinsically. For example, differences with one's boss, struggles with coworkers, relational issues, problems with your teenager, etc. ET alleviates stress, anx, depression, and adds clarity, meaning & max's one's potential.
Relational Therapy (RT)work identifies, builds, and creates a person's relationships; professional, partner, food, etc. Identifying discord in relationships provides rich context in which to resolve conflicts, develop personal accountability, and improve relationships as a whole. It is crucial to RT that we include race, social class, culture, gender, identity and other factors as we work to alleviate possible symptoms such as anxiety, stress, depression, which leads to low-self esteem & more.
Many people eat, drink, spend their anxiety away only to amass more along the way. In Existential counseling anxiety is not a bad thing but neurotic anxiety can be troublesome. Anxiety is meant to warn us, a signal if you will. At the rate of speed people process and access information today, anxiety warnings often go unattended and build on one another. This person may say, I am stressed out." Yes, that is true, but likely compounded anxiety is the main ingredient, which can lead to depression.
Depression is difficult to name. I hear, "I am tired a lot," as one crumb that leads me to believe depression is playing a significant part. It hard to know that saying no to going to dinner with friends, or cancelling an outing with someone can be related to depression. People usually can identify depression honestly when they are in a very dark & debilitating place. Until then, we can think sleep will cure us, or eating heavy comfort foods are calling our name. Let's talk about this now.
Burnout in such a common thing in today's fast-paced world we live in. Burnout is emotional, physical and mental exhaustion. Burnout is often the result of not attending to anxiety, depression, eating habits, and personal well-being. Moods drastically vacillate during burnout; anger, rage, and panic infiltrate our world and make keeping up with the demands of life nearly impossible. Coping skills are nowhere to be found, one could drop their keys and cry. The body and brain are on shutdown.
