I have completed Level I of Internal Family Systems training through the IFS Institute and practice this work regularly. I find that IFS incorporates the best insights of psychodynamic therapy in a pragmatic, accessible, and transformative relationship between the self and our conflicting parts. It is a different way of doing therapy than most are used to doing, in that the relationship between client and therapist becomes secondary to your relationship with your own "parts" of self.
I have been practicing from an ACT perspective for five years, and I find it invaluable in working with issues of anxiety and avoidance that can arise from trauma or other painful personal experiences. ACT also is very useful in working with chronic or "stuck" conditions that seem unresolvable. The ultimate message of ACT, in my experience, is that we can learn to live meaningful lives today, even if we're never "healed."
I hold that spiritual connection to what is greater than the Self is an important component to healing and values-led behavior. Many of us have experienced spiritual wounding or neglect, and struggle to utilize the teachings and tools we've been taught in ways that liberate rather than further constrain and minimize ourselves. Along with that, I find many of us in deep spiritual work may be unaware of the extent to which our unfinished business shapes and limits our potential.
I specialize in helping men and masculine people cultivate emotional resilience, intimacy, and integrity in relationships. While I am not a strict adherent to the gender binary, I believe the experience of people socialized as men in this culture has a unique confluences of gifts and challenges, and I find that men are hungry for spaces to explore and understand themselves without judgment or shame.
