About My Clients
Many of my clients are adult children of immigrants and people of color who struggle with perfectionism, people pleasing, and worry that they will never be "enough." There may be parts of themselves they feel unable to explore or express, and worry that these parts may not be understood or supported by others. Many may be navigating intergenerational trauma, and relationship issues with their family of origin or romantic relationships.
My Background and Approach
I believe a safe and comfortable relationship with the therapist is critical to the success of the therapy. Thus, I aim to meet you where you are at, and work collaboratively to move towards where you want to go. I strive to be authentic, warm, empathic, and engaged. I value the challenging moments moving through painful and difficult memories as much as I cherish moments of humor and connection. I love how dynamic the therapy process can be, and believe the tears and laughter are both therapeutic. I am trained to integrate various forms of evidence based approaches into therapy, while considering you to be the expert in your own life. I highlight your areas of strength and resiliency. I often focus on working towards more flexible, balanced, and compassionate ways of thinking and behaving. I work with you to explore the stories you are telling yourself, and identify new narratives that help you move towards building a life consistent with your values.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe that you deserve to feel safe and to be seen. I understand that what may work in therapy for others may not fit for you. "Just say no" or "just set a boundary" may not be as simple as it sounds. I believe your thoughts, feelings, ways of being, and hopes and dreams are deserving of validation and support. I understand that you and your family's experience has a historical, systemic context that is important to hold space for. I understand everyone's experience can be vastly different even if they share a common identity. I believe I am on a journey of learning what it means to be a culturally sensitive therapist, and will be continuously educating myself on how to better support those who are marginalized or underrepresented.
