Amanda is passionate about allowing people to find healing in their suffering and putting you at ease from the start (humor always helps).
Clinical Social Worker in Ada, MI
I utilize EMDR (a very specific extensive training for trauma treatment among other mental health diagnosis treatments) to assist clients in finding healing from PTSD and attachment traumas. While EMDR is not for everyone, I engage in other treatment types such as CPT, CBT, and DBT Skills to assist in the healing process for those suffering from PTSD.
I am very passionate about the work I do with parents (Moms AND Dads!) who are suffering from postpartum mood disorders. I am specially trained to provide treatment for mamas and families who are being impacted by pregnancy-related concerns and for postpartum depression, anxiety, OCD, as well as treatment for birth trauma. Basically, anything related to post-baby adjustment.
Women's issues are near and dear to my heart. I practice within a framework to empower and assist women in recognizing their true selves. Women often come to me already encompassing the power to handle why they are seeing me, (work place discrimination, sexism, historical trauma, parenthood, self-worth, mental health concerns, ect.) they just need a welcoming place to explore their thoughts and emotions without judgement to find the skills and begin to find grounding and restoration.
I really enjoy the process of assisting clients in navigating the thought patterns that continuously interact in their days in a negative manner, that we work to target and break down and begin to change to improve overall daily functionality. Outside of EMDR, CBT is one of my favorite modalities to use because of the impact it has on clients in such a positive way. CBT assists in changing negative thoughts to improve moods, feelings/emotions, and behaviors.
EMDR is a treatment type that I can utilize to help you to feel less responsive to triggers and find healing. This is not like typical talk therapy in that I generally am not responding to a client’s comments because I get to allow your brain to do the work and put things where they need to go to allow for healing to happen! This therapy allows the brain to again complete its natural healing process. I use this to treat the following: PTSD/trauma, OCD/phobias, anxiety/depression, ED, PMADs
Feminist Therapy focuses on societal structures impact on us. It is a strengths-based model working collaboratively with each client. This therapy assists in navigating the structure and dynamics of our environments and how they impact our lives and well being in disruptive ways. My work identifies the breakdown and we then together identify how person and environment experience marginalization so we can begin building in skills and frameworks to heal.
