About My Clients
Reaching out for help is a difficult first step to making changes. I recognize that finding the right therapist can be stressful. My very best work has been with children, adolescents, adults, and families who are experiencing increased symptoms of anxiety and depression leading to significant changes in functioning.
My Background and Approach
My path to becoming a therapist started with my education and work experience as a school counselor. I quickly realized that I was unable to give my students and families the type of support and care they needed. I knew then that my passion was to continue my education and become a therapist so I could provide whole-person care incorporating family, community, and skill development. I have experience working across multiple levels of care, including residential placement, intensive outpatient, in-home community counseling, and outpatient. My ability to form connections with all people is what makes my practice strong. I help my clients navigate life's challenges through hope, acceptance, and the development of healthy coping strategies that allow them to regain a sense of calm, empowerment, and truth. I use an integrated approach in sessions allowing for open processing as well as skill development. I am trained in dialectical behavior therapy and cognitive behavioral therapy.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I approach individual therapy, group counseling, and family therapy with compassion, kindness, and respect. I am nonjudgmental, accepting, and compassionate in my words, actions, and thoughts. A value that I hold that has influenced my approach to counseling is acceptance. My counseling approach includes many aspects of DBT, which contributes to learning acceptance skills and change skills. I believe all people are capable of creating change in their current situation with the right support. Growth is always possible!
