About My Clients
Have you or your child experienced some type of trauma but don't want to be retraumatized by talking about it? One advantage of art therapy is that is provides a means of telling without talking. My goal is to move the survivor away from being help captive by their past and to engage more fully in the present. Creating artwork is cathartic and creates a safe place to contain emotions. My areas of speciality include trauma, PTSD, adolescents, eating disorders, anxiety, and depression.
My Background and Approach
Humans are very resilient. For over thirteen years I suffered from an eating disorder that ultimately inspired my studies to help others who felt labeled, misunderstood, anxious, and insecure. We are often shamed for being broken instead of being asked how we fell apart. Therapy should not feel like an agonizing scavenger hunt for pathology. “I’m fine” is the most common lie we hear. It is ok not to be ok. Art therapy provides a unique vessel for expression where words can fall short. Difficult feelings can be contained and expressed within the artwork using symbols as natural metaphors for experiences. You may tell your story, share your images and do some hard work which I hope will take away some of the power of the wound. My Personal Beliefs and Interests
We all have within us the ability to endure, recover and learn from overwhelming events. We are wired to survive; we would not be here as a human species unless we ad evolved ways of recovering.
