About My Clients

Do you feel stressed, tired, sad, unhappy, unheard, confused and need a place to process and make sense of what has happened or is happening? Whether a college or grad student dealing with adulthood or an adult dealing with emotions, stress, relationships, sense of self, or identity (i.e., race, gender, social class), I see therapy as a collaboration between us where we engage in conversations about yourself and your life in order to help you work on being the better you that you want to be.

My Background and Approach

I value your differences, strengths, and unique perspectives to events and situations. I have been in the mental healthcare field for over 20 years. I earned my doctorate in Clinical and School Psychology from James Madison University in VA. I have held roles in healthcare systems, college counseling centers, and school systems, with clients of differing backgrounds and experiences. I have a well-developed understanding of healthy and unhealthy psychological functioning across the lifespan. Collaboratively, we will together examine your thoughts, feelings, experiences, actions, and relationships. With curiosity, humor, humility, and patience, I listen, ask questions, and brainstorm with you to help you manage your life either with new insights or approaches. My therapeutic style is relational, in which I strive to be supportive, non-judgmental, genuine, and attuned. My hope is to build a relationship with you in which you can trust, reflect, grow, and progress.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

James Baldwin said, “Not everything that is faced can be changed. But nothing can be changed until it is faced.” I believe this and I believe the power of talk therapy--to be able to talk and to be heard--helps this to happen. Many people, particularly men and people of color (BIPOC), neglect their mental well-being because of stigma or shame. They think talking about their problems is weakness. They are wrong. In fact, talking about your hopes, fears, stresses, sadness, and relationships can be the bravest thing you can do for yourself. In therapy, people can understand themselves and their lives better and either accept things or work to change them where necessary, thus leading to better life satisfaction. When I work with clients, my hope is that as they achieve their goals, they become happier, calmer, and more authentic. I believe in the human spirit. Please feel free to contact me to talk about how I might be a useful resource to help you live a more fulfilling life.
