EMDR is a less intimidating way of working through trauma. With EMDR, very little attention is given to the actual event. We now know that it is not the actual event that causes the continued distress, rather it is our take-away. For example, if your were in a car accident two years ago and you still find it difficult to drive on interstates, the accident is not our focus, rather, your visceral sense that "I'm not safe" is the focus.
