About My Clients
My clients come to me feeling stuck, overwhelmed or lost. They feel like something is wrong with them. They want to figure out how to function better and feel like they belong in the world and in their relationships (with partners, family, friends, colleagues). They experience anxiety, people-pleasing, and intense feelings of responsibility. Some suffer from Eldest Daughter syndrome. Many have experienced religious trauma/spiritual wounds that complicate their sense of self and ability to trust.
My Background and Approach
I’m a trauma-focused Therapist that treats relational wounds (including emotional and spiritual abuse/neglect), who can confidently guide you towards your goals of growth and healing. My approach is centered on developing our therapeutic relationship from a client-centered, attachment-based and holistic perspective. I am directive, collaborative, supportive, and responsive to feedback. I use EFT, EMDR and pull from IFS, DBT and poly vagal theory to help you gain awareness, insight, and build skills to cope with stress, anxiety, depression, and difficult relationships. I have experience working with adults, teens, children, and families, including 3 years working primarily with Indigenous families on the Qualla Boundary/Cherokee, NC. My work is inclusive and neurodivergent-affirming. I also have experience providing services in a domestic violence shelter. My work has helped me develop a deeper, more intimate understanding of intergenerational trauma and systemic violence.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe that while life creates unique challenges for all of us, we all have the power to grow, change, and heal. We determine who we are, how we show up in the world; and are capable of achieving balance and peace in our lives. Unfortunately, many of us were not taught HOW to do this, and instead have learned a pattern of beliefs, thoughts, and behaviors that negatively impact how we feel about ourselves and weaken our connection with our own power. These patterns often come from our families, communities, and experiences with religious groups. After walking with many clients on their journey towards wellness, I have seen how a reparative therapeutic relationship can be transformative and give people the confidence and skills to handle all that life throws at them. I operate from a strong Queer positive, anti-capitalist, feminist, decolonial framework and do not shy away from exploring how these systems impact your wellbeing AND finding how you can live a balanced life anyway.
