Anxiety happens when we replay the past, have a trauma reaction, or forecast into the future. Our minds are programmed to constantly scan our environment for signs of threat in order to keep us safe. Yet sometimes our brain falsely detects danger - physical, emotional or social - and this creates unnecessary fear and anxiety. Through a combination of coping skills training, gentle exposures, mindfulness, and self-enquiry, you can learn to conquer your fears.
Personality Disorders are represented by global and pervasive maladaptive ways of thinking and reacting to the world around us. I specialize in treating patterns of chronic distress and dysfunction linked to a desire or attempt to over-control themselves, others, or the world. Radically Open DBT has decades of research as an effective treatment for personality disorders.
Food and body rules and rituals can take over our daily life whether through food restriction or compulsive exercise. RO DBT treats eating disorders by breaking down habitual body focused behaviors and building stronger connections to create a 'life worth sharing.'
Radically Open DBT is my primary passion and area of expertise. Intensively trained and supervised in 2017 by treatment developer Dr. Thomas Lynch. I am a certified senior trainer in RO DBT, a member of the international senior clinician team, and a presenter and co-author in the areas of RO DBT with teens and families. You can find more information about my roles in the RO DBT community at https://www.radicallyopen.net/trainers-and-supervisors.html
As most individuals experience trauma at some point during the lifecycle, being a trauma-informed clinician is vitally important. With the combination of eye movements, imaginal exposure, sensory processing, and neuro-biological calming strategies, it is possible to heal from the past
