About My Clients
I meet with cisgender teen guys, emerging adult males, and trans youth addressing depression, trauma, oppositional behavior, and LGBTQ+ topics.
My Background and Approach
My counseling approach is strongly influenced by existential psychotherapy and attachment theory, but I tend to be fairly pragmatic in sessions, utilizing what seems most useful right now. Most often that’s a mix of motivational interviewing, narrative approaches, practical mindfulness, and cognitive-behavioral traditions. I also have significant training and experience using dialectical behavioral therapy, an evidence-based approach I find especially useful when working with self-harming, highly anxious, or oppositional teens.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
In addition to my clinical work, I regularly provide professional development and continuing education programs for helping professionals. I’ve also presented for non-profit agencies, county sponsored events, and over 100 times at international, national, and regional conferences -- including multiple times at the American Counseling Association, the Association of Experiential Education, and the Washington Behavioral Health Council.
