About My Clients
My clients are growth-minded adults that want to improve their relationships (with self and others), process relational trauma, and/or address career concerns. Some of them identify as spiritual (not necessarily religious) and appreciate my sensitivity to this part of their identity. I have enjoyed working with clients from diverse backgrounds from all over the world. Many of my clients are healthcare professionals, therapists, small business owners, attorneys, academics, and graduate students.
My Background and Approach
I will help you to slow down and lean *INTO* your full range of emotions, especially the uncomfortable ones you’re so good at avoiding. Together we will examine ways your past is connected to your present, identify problematic relationship patterns, and figure out how you want to start applying these insights to your life. Psychodynamic psychotherapy goes beyond symptom reduction and heals underlying problems in a way that leads to long-lasting change. It is often an intense process, but I will be there to support and guide you as we explore the terrain of your inner life. As a Counseling Psychologist, I develop a collaborative relationship with individuals struggling with “problems in living,” in contrast to viewing emotional problems through the lens of a medical model that treats a diagnosis. Furthermore, a focus on personal growth and multicultural humility are foundational to my work.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
We live is a world that is increasingly disconnected and divided. As an antidote, I lead interpersonal process therapy groups to help individuals feel seen and connected. In these groups 6-8 people come together on a weekly basis to support and challenge one another. It’s kind of like a more realistic version of “The Breakfast Club.” As a Certified Group Psychotherapist I have led over 60 of these groups. Many clients have found that group therapy was able to accelerate their healing and growth in a way that individual therapy alone did not. On another note, I appreciate art, including music, film, and literature, as a way to articulate and explore your emotional life. In my free time I enjoy going out with friends to live music events and movie theaters in the Twin Cities.
