I practice heart-centered trauma therapy grounded in neuroscience by using EMDR, Somatic Experiencing, Attachment Repair and Mindfulness.
Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist in Los Angeles, CA
Somatic Experiencing therapy is a highly effective and proven body-centered approach to healing stress disorders and trauma. Because trauma is held in the body as well as the mind, talking is not enough. By helping the nervous system regulate itself and for you to feel safe, somatic therapy allows you to slowly release trauma from your body and tap into your capacity to heal and become resilient.
We have our own personal experiences with trauma. We understand your pain and genuinely want to help you feel better. For over 25 years Cutting Edge Counseling has helped people release the turmoil caused by trauma and embrace a more hopeful, joyous future. Because trauma affects our thinking, our emotions and our bodies, we use a powerful combination of therapies based in neuroscience--EMDR, Somatic Experiencing, Attachment Repair and Mindfulness.
I take a heart-centered approach to healing. I understand how debilitating anxiety and panic can be, which is why I draw from advanced, effective approaches, including EMDR Therapy, Somatic Therapy, Attachment Repair Therapy and Mindfulness Therapy to treat anxiety, panic and trauma. I can teach you tools to interrupt panic attacks and calm your nervous system, helping you work through the feelings of fear and shame that often arise.
How we think profoundly influences how we feel and behave. These negative thoughts bedevil us, but they don’t protect us. In fact, they just grind us down. Mindfulness therapy teaches practical skills to use in everyday life to counter anxious and depressive thoughts. Circular negative thinking, shame and self-judgment are simply a part of the mindset of those who have experienced trauma, and mindfulness gives us practical skills to work skillfully with the nature of being a human.
Unresolved trauma shows up in our relationships in so many ways. We may stay too long, fear intimacy, choose unhealthy partners, have trouble trusting . We may feel shame, unlovable or bad. It's all so complicated and confusing. When you start your journey of recovery, you feel safer in the world and find more clarity, agency and skill. Wouldn't it feel great to be able to engage more fully with the important people in your life?
Trauma negatively impacts every area of our lives--relationships, health, thoughts, sleep, spirituality. This work is my passion and I have devoted over 30 years to deepening my healing skills. There's nothing simple about trauma and it needs a complex approach to change negative thought patterns, reduce emotional reactivity and regulate our nervous systems.

EMDR isn't a miracle cure but sometimes it feels like that. Sometimes it can resolve a single-incident trauma like a car accident with a handful of sessions. It's also helpful with long-term developmental trauma like coming from a difficult home. I often interweave it with somatic work, mindfulness and talk therapy, responding with whatever is helpful in the moment.
