About My Clients

We've all been shaken by these past years and find ourselves in unknown territory. Anxious and grieving all that has been lost, loved ones, a sense of safety and control, opportunities. My clients are seekers, wanting deeper connection, hoping to find calm in the storm and open to exploring newer therapies grounded in neuroscience. My work will take you beyond trauma, beyond simply understanding why you feel bad to actually feeling better. Right now is the time to get more support. I can help.

My Background and Approach

I have over 30 years experience as a trauma therapist and way more than that as a human being. Traditionally, therapy focused on understanding why we feel bad rather than on how we can feel better. Yes, I use relational talk therapy and yes, I use some cognitive behavioral therapy, but I have seen personally and professionally that these can only go so far. Trauma is held in the body and we have to include the body in therapy in order to heal. I was an early adopter of EMDR but that too had its limitations. I further trained in Somatic Experiencing and Mindfulness and I use whatever training, education and experience I have to be most useful in the moment. But there are no techniques that work without a good relationship between client and therapist. I work collaboratively, aiming for flexibility and responsiveness to your pace, cultural background, spiritual beliefs, gender identity and sexual orientation.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I believe we can grow in every decade of our lives. As a longtime meditator I'm interested in spirituality and meaning . I am vitally interested in the cultivation of happiness, of learning how to make wise choices and deepen connection to ourselves and others. You might think that trauma work is depressing but it is quite the opposite. It is all kinds of things including fascinating and deeply intimate. I really have to marvel at our capacity to emerge from terrible circumstances and still have our full, flawed humanity. I believe that it is essential to our happiness to develop self-compassion. I believe that perfectionism leads to shame spirals and that we need to say No to both. I want us to embrace YES. Healing from trauma brings back fun, ease and creativity. I’m direct, interactive, and real and you get to be those things too. I’m interested in social justice, and the breakdown of racism, sexism/genderism, ageism, heterosexism, all the -isms.
