About My Clients

Have you tried talk therapy but didn’t see the changes you were hoping for? Do you have good insight into your problems but don’t know how to actually change them? Are you looking to heal from trauma more effectively and holistically? If so, it might be time to try a somatic approach. Somatic psychotherapy helps us find, understand and resolve the root causes of our issues in ways that are often inaccessible through traditional talk therapy.

My Background and Approach

Human beings learn and grow primarily through experience. Simply thinking or talking about a problem can be helpful, but is not enough to create real change. In order for meaningful change to occur, we need to go beyond the thinking mind. Using a somatic approach, I help clients learn to connect to their bodies and work within their emotional minds. This often involves learning to attune to signs and signals from your body; to understand the mind/body connection; to be with and respond to emotions effectively; to regulate your nervous system; and to process significant and/or traumatic events. Ultimately, my goal is to help clients re-establish a feeling of safety in their bodies, release stuck patterns and unhelpful coping strategies, and to experience greater presence, connection and joy in their lives.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I believe we all possess the resources for growth, transformation and coping with life’s various challenges. Mental health issues arise when we lose sight of this and therapy is about re-connecting us with these innate capacities. My work is based on the belief that human beings are relational, meaning relationships are central to our health and well-being. I also believe that in order to understand people and problems, it is important to understand the impact of wider systems and social contexts on people’s lives. Context is of paramount significance for an individual’s psychological development and emotional well-being. Lastly, our bodies are one of our greatest tools. In order to feel whole and alive we need to be able to settle, trust, and listen to our bodies.
