About My Clients

I work with those who feel constantly on edge, disconnected from their bodies, or always on autopilot. People that are wonderful at caring for others, but find it difficult treat themselves with care or kindness. I primarily work with Q+ BIPOC folks, particularly queer Black women, femmes, and mixed race people, who would like a therapist that understands intersectionality, nuance and the effects of systemic oppression and discrimination on their mental health.

My Background and Approach

One of my specialties is working with those who have experienced various forms of trauma (childhood, sexual, relationship etc.) that has affected how they treat themselves and others, and makes it difficult to feel at home in their bodies. In our work together we will reconnect with the body and foster a sense of choice and balance in your life. We will tend to the parts of yourself that haven't been able to receive care and affirmation, and work towards a life of connection, expansiveness and authenticity. My work with mixed race/biracial/multiracial people often entails exploring their experiences of race and racialization, and processing the complexities of a mixed race family. I support them in developing a sense of identity that affirms all parts of themselves that honors their diverse heritage and their right to find belonging and wholeness.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

My clinical orientation is grounded in Black feminism, with the understanding that we each have unique intersectional identities that inform how we experience the world, and have the right to determine who we are and how we live. I believe our experiences of oppression and marginalization profoundly affect our mental health and healing is an integral part of creating transformative communities and a just world. I use aspects of Somatic Experiencing (SE), a form of body-based trauma therapy, to support you in processing trauma. I choose to implement SE because it aligns with various BIPOC ancestral forms of healing that center a mind-body-soul perspective. I also use SE because it provides an avenue for healing the embodied nature of intergenerational trauma.
