About My Clients
I have spent a considerable amount of time working with veterans and their families. I have also worked with first responders and those in the helping professions. I have found that folks overcoming some of life’s biggest hurdles just need some time and space to figure it out. I believe that each human being has great potential. Given time and space, most people can explore their past to see how it informs the present.
My Background and Approach
I’m a veteran, and have 20 plus years experience as a therapist with the Department of Veterans Affairs / Vet Center. My work with minority veterans during my time at the Vet Center/VA has given me some small glimpse into the systemic racism of our country and its history. My approach is trauma informed, with extensive training and experience in transpersonal and existential perspectives. Mostly I believe that the awe and wonder of life can be overshadowed with the darkness from our past or the anxiety with our future. Purpose and meaning are a big part of what I am interested in. Particularly through the lens of humor and wonder at our existence. The idea that we could learn to be more comfortable in our own skin underlies much of the work in therapy.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I have been married for 30 years and have two teenage sons. I have lived in Oregon for the last twenty five years or so and I am in love with the rain and awesome craft beer. I don’t take myself very seriously and find happiness in the small things in life. I am curious about the world and our existence and enjoy reveling in it whenever it presents itself. Nature and relationships are a big deal to me and I’m kind of dork since I read science fiction and fantasy books a lot. I also have too much vinyl and keep telling myself not to go into the record shops.
