About My Clients
People I work with are often struggling with anxiety. They're either consumed by excessive worry and fear or have found their world getting smaller and smaller as they start to avoid doing things that bring on intense physical sensations and fear. They're usually looking to live more fearlessly, to be more happy and secure in their relationships, and to "get out of their heads"!
My Background and Approach
My own personal experience with anxiety and panic sent me on a mission to figure it out for myself. As a result, I not only GET IT, but I also know some of the most effective and evidence-based approaches for dealing with it. Using a combination of cognitive-based strategies, mindfulness, and exposure and response prevention (ERP), I help people regain confidence to do the things they might not have thought possible. Anxiety - especially of the "disordered" variety is very treatable with the right help.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
Politically - although "liberal-leaning" - I would describe myself as moderate - not afraid to have important conversations or to take a strong stance, but generally rejecting of extreme "tribal-oriented" views or positions that strictly line up with party lines. Using reason and dialogue, perhaps it's possible to change minds or to meet even our strongest "opponents" somewhere in the middle. As it relates to my therapeutic approach, I believe it is important to make sure I am using evidence-based approaches rooted in good science and research. I consider myself inclusive and enjoy working with a broad range of people with varying ethnic, cultural, and religious backgrounds, but I identify as secular myself. I am an ally of the LGBTQ community and an advocate for secular issues, such as separation of church and state.
