About My Clients

I've been in the field for more than 30 years . I started off treating inner city POC who identified as women Since going into private practice, many years ago, I’ve worked with a wide range of people from teachers, academics ,artists, LGBQ clients , computer programmer's , political organizers and stay at home parents I work with individuals in their mid 20's to 60's who are curious about themselves and are willing to commit to the work. When we work as a team you flourish .

My Background and Approach

Years ago I was active in the civil rights movement and I got a BA in history because I was very interested in how events past and present impact the world . This interest applies to my work with my clients When I became a psychotherapist I started with a MA but very quickly felt I needed to know more. I earned a Phd and a psychoanalyst certificate both of which I accomplished while working full time. I think the intertwining of practice and learning psychology really enriched my capabilities as a therapist . I also received a BFA . As a result I have worked with and enjoy working with people who are artists or creative or struggle with creative blocks. My approach is psychoanalytic however things have changed since Freud. I engage in conversation with my clients, when appropriate I might give advice and I am willing and eager to hear and correct when I disappoint or misunderstand you. I consider us a team. You know you and I know about psychological patterns .

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I believe that the intermix of society and one's personal life are deeply intertwined. While I specifically concentrate on your life past and present inner and outer. I also see your life as existing in the context of world events. At times we might discuss this phenomenon although some clients prefer not to do this and I try and honor this need. In my personal life I am active in several political groups mostly around women’s rights ,foreign policy, immigration and African American rights. I am also active and interested in the art world and am involved with developing several art organizations . My own treatment helped me get in touch with both my desire to become a therapist and to go to art school . Both were roads I never would have predicted traversing. I also became far more secure . Because of my own experience with treatment .I firmly believe if you engage we have a good chance to move your personal mountains.
