About My Clients
I partner with anyone who may be struggling with fear and anxiety, no matter how you identify or who you love. I work with clients ages 15 and older, and as a member of the LGBTQ community, have a special interest in working with "family". I have worked extensively with both youth and adult gender nonconforming individuals, and have experience writing letters for legal changes and medical procedures, without taking on a role as "gatekeeper".
My Background and Approach
I have been a private practice therapist since 2009 after spending 11 years as a teacher. I found that I was much more interested in talking with my students about their emotional struggles and helping them work through them more than helping them work through math problems. My primary perspective is client centered and I believe that my clients are the experts in the room when it comes to knowing who they are and what they want/need. I will meet you where you are, provide a safe space to process emotions, and help you find ways to accept what you can't control and change the things you can.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe that we are all doing our best on whatever path we are on. Every experience and relationship we have had up until now has brought us to this place and informed how we think about, feel about, and do things. Unfortunately, we live in a society that believes in shame as a tool for change, when it actually is what keeps us stuck. I believe that the more insightful we are, and truly accept ourselves, the closer we will be to being our most full, authentic selves in the world. Finally, I believe that the more authentically we are ourselves in the world, the more satisfied and content we are on our journey.
