Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a mental health condition that's triggered by a traumatic, scary or dangerous event. PTSD can be caused by either witnessing or experiencing the trauma. Events that sometimes trigger PTSD include everything from sexual assault, war, and violence, to car accidents or other incidents that could cause loss of life. It is not at all uncommon for people who go through something traumatic to have temporary difficulty coping and acute symptoms, but with time, they usually get better. However, if the symptoms last longer than a month, get worse rather than better and affect your ability to function, you may be suffering from PTSD. Symptoms of PTSD may include severe anxiety, anger, nightmares, trouble sleeping, flashbacks to the event, frightening thoughts, avoidance of situations or places, feeling on edge and/or being easily startled. Typical concerns of the people I work with include managing the effects of traumatic experiences, relationship issues, intense emotions, and grief. Areas of special focus include supporting survivors of sexual violence and adults healing from the effects of child abuse and relational trauma in their families of origin including sexual abuse, incest, neglect, and intimate partner violence.

My ideal client is a person or couple that knows, no matter what they bring into a therapeutic space, they are valued, and they are the experts of their own lived experience. When we cross oceans together, you'll be the steering the ship, with me as your navigator. I understand the complex reality of intersectional identity that creates privilege or compounds to reinforce oppression and marginalization. My clients seek to live the best version of their lives and are willing to explore to do so.

Some of my clients are working on issues related to their identity, desire, or relationships. The one thing all my clients have in common is the courage and desire to live differently. Most everyone has found that survival strategies that were once necessary and even helpful, no longer work in the ways they used to and, in some instances rather than being helpful, they have become counterproductive. My clients, ages 18-80, want to understand the origins of old survival strategies, strengthen them where they remain useful, and replace them where necessary.

As a queer person, my work is rooted in anti-racism and social justice with an intersectional feminist lens. This enables me to embrace kink-positivity, CNM/polyam relationships, and sex work. I cater to those wrestling with fat and body positivity. I also look to support caregivers and mental health workers coping with burnout.
