About My Clients
You’re doing “all the right things” and still depressed. Maybe you find yourself wondering why things you used to enjoy seem pointless. You’re always exhausted. It is hard to think. Sleep is a constant frustration. You can’t stop crying or maybe you can’t remember the last time you could cry. Perhaps you’re feeling like living this way is not worth it.
My Background and Approach
Because depression means so many different things in our current context the critical first step in treatment is diagnosis. I often tell people that saying to someone ‘you have depression’ is like saying, ‘Paint that wall blue.’ I have a general sense of what you mean, but I need a lot more information to make sure I really understand. So before we can make smart decisions about treatment we need to understand what depression means for you. This means looking at your symptoms, your temperament and personality, your physical health, your life circumstances, and your genetics. Once we have a better grasp of the specifics of your situation then we can identify multiple levers including lifestyle modification, treating medical conditions, therapy, adding or subtracting psychiatric medication, and so on. I usually offer several possible treatment options to consider and then we work together to pick the one that makes most sense to you and implement it.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
My goal is to provide an individualized treatment plan, addressing lifestyle, psychological, and pharmacological and/or medical interventions to help you get back to feeling well. I have structured my practice to provide a calm, unhurried, responsive health care experience. I strive to respect all of my patients as unique individuals and to acknowledge the impact their gender, race, sexual orientation and life experiences have on their health and their treatment in the healthcare system.
