“Say More About That” Show Notes: Episode #34 – Let's talk about body-centered therapy

Jeff Guenther, MS, LPC on Oct 20, 2019 in Say More About That

Today, I talk to Kay Lee, a somatic body-centered therapist. Kay schools me on what exactly body-centered therapy is, how to be embodied, why we should be embodied, what the body is good for and so much more. I talk with Kay about my own experience with my current therapist, who takes a body-centered approach. Kay shares a touching story about why she decided to become a therapist. We laugh a lot, have a ton of fun and talk about my favorite food, sloppy joes.

Questions and topics I discuss with Kay in the episode:

  • What does it mean to be embodied?
  • What are helpful tools?
  • How can the body inform us?
  • What causes disembodiement?
  • What are the societal/cultural components to this?
  • What is the body good for anyway?
  • Why do we have bodies?
  • What informs you?
  • What is the difference between the "pain body" and body intuition?
  • What brought you to the work you do today?
