Burnout is becoming increasingly common in our achievement-driven society that prizes contribution to a monetary bottom line more than it values individual health and well-being (don't even get me started!). We can work together to explore what led you here, how you can recover and build systems that prevent burnout from taking you hostage again! I usually weave values and identity into burnout work.

For those suffering from depression, I typically use an eclectic approach that feels tailored to your specific experience with depression. I can employ CBT, person-centered talk-therapy, DBT and related ways of processing, coping with and hopefully recovering from depression. When applicable, discussing underlying/historical causes can be very beneficial.

In treating anxiety, I really want to reinforce to my clients that struggle with it that it is a response that typically was once adaptive and helpful, but just no longer serves you and can feel really debilitating. Validating our anxiety is the first step to taking control of it and rewiring our brains to respond to stimuli that would normally send us reeling in a way that doesn't reinforce that uncomfortable or unknown things are inherently dangerous.

I am intensively trained in RO-DBT, lead weekly skills classes, and provide adherent RO-DBT individual therapy. RO is geared towards over-controlled people who find their perfectionism to be maladaptive at times, to feel overwhelmed, emotionally lonely, burnt out, find their rigid, black-and-white, or overly rule-governed thinking and behavior to be getting in the way of your relationships or overall well-being.

I identify as a feminist who views all of my work through a justice-oriented framework, particularly working with women and non-binary individuals. What does this actually look like? I focus on the many societal, cultural, and political causes of issues faced in therapy that feel particularly relevant and pertinent to women and non-binary folks, especially considering most of the therapeutic frameworks we use today were researched and put to use with mostly white men.

CBT is an incredibly framework to use when working with anxiety and depression, and I usually use it in conjunction with a person-centered, feminist and humanistic approach. Challenging and reframing cognitions (thoughts) that no longer serve you or aren't in line with your values, with appropriate self-validation, exploration and processing of how you came to employ those cognitions in the first place.
