I’m a therapist and counselor with 20 years’ experience helping women find their way to personal empowerment and self awareness.
Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist in Nolensville, TN
I have specialized training in IFS and have found it to be an amazing modality for allowing all of a person’s internal voices an opportunity to be recognized and to speak their truth. Often, as trauma survivors, we become fragmented in order to survive, and it can take practice to reintegrate all those parts, so they can all feel safe, welcome and valued.
No matter what we’re discussing, I take an underlying depth informed perspective/orientation. What this means is that I’m highly attuned to the subtle, unconscious meaning behind your words, mannerisms, and the overall way you not only express yourself, but what you avoid expressing. I like to give my clients an opportunity to hear what I observe about you, so your healing process can include things you may not be aware are holding you back from healing.
I participated in the Interpersonal Coaching program at the Institute for Transpersonal Psychology, both as a student and later as a teaching assistant. Learning the coaching paradigm is how I first discovered that there is much more to healing and growth than labels and diagnoses and the rather limiting “medical model” of how to heal humans. The coaching mindset has us actively exploring the possible and looking carefully at our strengths and assets while also acknowledging our challenges.
Many people who come to therapy have experienced some form of childhood trauma or abuse, which has lingering effects on almost every aspect of our lives. Sometimes we experience so many symptoms we start to think there’s something genuinely wrong with us! But the truth is, childhood trauma and abuse can cause us to develop a lot of coping mechanisms we eventually outgrow, and that process can be challenging to navigate! I’m here to help.
No matter why you’ve referred yourself to therapy, you are hoping to achieve a positive personal change, and that change can only come from the personal growth you’re ready to undertake. Growing yourself into the amazing person you want to manifest is easier when you have a helper, someone who can already see your strengths and appreciates you for who you are, and not just the potential you have. Let’s work together to explore your uniqueness and ways to maximize all that you are and wish to be.
Family conflict, including full and partial estrangement, can often plague us when we’ve experienced a traumatic or abusive childhood. It’s valuable to explore these dynamics in therapy, to learn how the past influences how we relate to the important people in our present. Let’s talk about the roles that codependence, guilt and obligation play in our relationships and see if there are more peaceful, joyful, satisfying options for you to explore and experience.
