I help folks heal from bad childhoods that messed up their relationship with food and their body using science, pleasure, and curiosity.

Our relationships with food are complex and layered and often have less to do with just eating emotionally or out of hunger. *Most* eating is a combination of these two things! We may eat together in session, unpack your beliefs about food and your body, or teach you skills to pause and notice what's happening for you when emotional eating starts. I am confident that you can have a better relationship with food *and* emotions, and that they don't have to be tied together so painfully.
I have experience working with chronic and severe eating disorders at residential, partial hospitalization, and intensive outpatient levels of care. I take a multidisciplinary approach and collaborate with Registered Dietitians who I trust to ensure that your body's nutritional needs are being met as we tackle underlying patterns of restriction, overexercising, purging, or rigid and painful food rules. I want to help you find pleasure in food and meaning in movement without hating yourself.
I have been studying and treating disordered body image for most of my career and have been personally interested in fat positivity and body liberation for over a decade. I think that your relationship with food and movement and your relationship with your body often go hand in hand, and I integrate various methods of healing these relationships as we move towards body acceptance (or neutrality if that works best for you) and building a life of meaning, connection, and joy.
I was trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy while I was still in grad school - I've known from the beginning of my career that I am passionate about helping folks to move through traumatic experiences and take the lessons they learned while leaving behind the painful sensations. I have received regular consultation and advanced trainings in this technique, which I firmly believe to be a gateway to healing for so many.
Internal Family Systems Therapy posits that your mind is multiple by design - that you have different aspects of your personality that arise at different moments and that you have various parts that help you move through the world. These parts often hold emotional pain, negative beliefs about yourself or the world, and the key to understanding your behavior. When we connect and build trusting, compassionate relationships with parts, you feel deeper clarity and more control in your life.
Your body is your window the world and the center of your experiences. Talking and thinking are often not enough - we have to move into the physical body and how we are experiencing each moment in order to better understand why we do what we do and how to affect change. I use EMDR and IFS along with mindfulness to help you understand how you're feeling, where you're feeling it, and what makes you feel different.
