Mindfulness has been a buzz word in our culture for quite some time now, and for good reason. Mindfulness is about the practice of self-awareness. I'm a therapist and I've been teaching yoga for 14 years. Utilizing yoga practices and philosophy, we can discover and uncover effective and profoundly rewarding practices that increase our ability to be mindful. This helps with stress, anxiety, transitions, and communication. There is a rich ground to be explored through this approach.
Communication styles and patterns are learned. We can learn new ones and unlearn what doesn't serve us. If the goal is to achieve harmony and progressive and positive outcomes as a result of communication, learning how to do this so our approach is effective, has integrity, and the goals are clearly defined. It's incredibly frustrating to attempt to communicate with someone important in our lives only to be met with defensiveness and a lack of receptivity. Let's improve the outcomes together.
One of the biggest decisions you'll make in your life is whether to marry and whom you'll choose. Premarital counseling can be seen as the most important preventative measure a couple can take to ensure they are going into a marriage with eyes wide open and important questions asked and answered. It requires extreme honesty, total commitment, and receptivity. Just like marriage does. What questions are you not thinking to ask? What are you afraid to find out?
No one avoids relationship issues entirely. And each of us behaves differently depending on who our partner is and what beliefs, expectations, ideals, and agreements they bring to the table. Can we be compatible with just anyone? No, but what we can do is be willing to become the best listener we can be. We can revise our communication styles. We can shift expectations and let go of long-held beliefs that no longer serve us.
It all stems from entitlement. If you're ready to take your feelings of entitlement and privilege on, there are many effective ways that will significantly challenge life-long held beliefs that you may have not yet questioned. A great deal of suffering could be resolved if issues surrounding privilege, entitlement, and fragility were addressed without the fear of offending or turning off the individual from examining their privilege. Confronting our morals, ideals, and beliefs can be a true joy.
We are constantly in flux. And everything we do is either a minor or major transition. These transitions can be exhilarating and also terrifying. When we begin to approach even our daily progressions with awareness and flexibility, it slowly comes more into focus what our individual approach is and how it could be modified and shifted to smooth out the rough edges that make these changes harder to handle.
