Counselor in Federal Way, WA
Under the training of Dr. Robert Rhoton of the AZ Trauma Institute, I learned a step-by-step approach of helping people understand, then be able to control their symptoms. This model focuses on empowering you to make sense of your own day-to-day experiences, and then eventually guides you to connect with your own resilience – sometimes without having to re-tell any painful stories from the past.
It is scientifically established that stress and psychological challenges are visible in the body. That means simply talking about your challenges often does not impact the way it physically makes you feel. Sensorimotor therapy is a non-directive, trauma-informed approach that helps the body let go of strong emotions and heal from stressful memories.
Have you ever felt at odds with yourself, or with something that you felt driven or obligated to do? Internal Family Systems is a perspective that focuses on all of the aspects of a person, and helps ease the arguments that nearly all of us have going on inside ourselves.
Societal expectations around sexuality and relationships often have an impact on us. This is especially true for people who identify as asexual or kinky, or participate in sexual or non-sexual kink. Before being a therapist, I had the privilege to form connections within local and larger kink communities. As a former member of Kink and Poly Aware Chicago Therapists (KPACT), I broadened my knowledge even further through formal clinical training.
While mainstream society often implies that the LGBTQ+ umbrella is homogenous, I know that non-cis-het people all have their own unique journeys and challenges. I received LGBTQ+ safe zone training, and have worked with clients navigating the world's heteronormative biases. Furthermore, I had the honor of representing diverse LGBTQ+ interests within the Illinois Counseling Association as a voting member of the Illinois Association for LGBTQ+ Issues in Counseling.
Unfortunately, many institutions in our society have a poor track record on respecting people who identify/practice consensual non-monogamy. Whether CNM is central to why you are seeking help or simply a part of your identity, I understand that CNM lifestyles are valid, and I seek to support your relational orientation as I would any other aspect of your identity.
