About My Clients
If you've made art before, you've probably encountered a release, or transformation of understanding, which often accompanies the process of creating. I help people experience that. Sometimes there are not words to describe how we feel. I bring art as an alternative method of expression, a visual vocabulary. When people get in touch with their own creative voice they often find therapy in the confidence of learning a new language, the ability to speak with their art and listen with their eyes.
My Background and Approach
I do my best work helping people see patterns in their life though the use of art. Often, the way people engage with art can be a metaphor for how they engage in other areas of life: food, desire, relationships with others, self, and many more. Art can be a springboard for communication or a backdoor, entering into challenging topics that are being avoided. Many people use words to mask their painful emotional experiences. I have found art is generally a more direct route to the truth of the matters of the heart. Sometimes, art is fun, playful & a place to grow confidence! I have also been trained intensively in Radically Open DBT, a new treatment approach for people who are excessively self-controlled. While some people lack emotional control and need help learning how to be less impulsive or emotionally-driven, people who are overly controlled need help with learning how to relax overly rigid and inflexible control over their emotions and emotion expression.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I am deeply moved by the change I have witnessed in clients I’ve worked with and feel passionate about sharing my skillset to help others. I am humanistic in my approach, use a multicultural framework, anti-diet, anti-racist lens. I am a fat-liberation advocate, and a firm believer in the magic of art making and power of connection.
