Gender identity issues, sometimes called gender dysphoria or gender conflict, occur when an individual feels an inconsistency between their physical gender and the gender they truly feel or identify with. This most commonly exhibits itself as a physical discomfort with the gender one was assigned at birth, including the feeling of being in the wrong body. Children with gender dysphoria may express disgust of their own genitals or a certainty that they will grow up to be the opposite sex. Some individuals with gender identity issues treat this feeling by physically modifying their bodies to better match their gender identity. Gender dysphoria comes with it an increased risk for depression, anxiety, self-esteem issues, and bullying. If you are experiencing gender identity issues, reach out to one of TherapyDen’s qualified professionals today.

Have you noticed that it's in the places you are supposed to be most relaxed (meditation, vacation, weekends, sleep) that your mind feels louder than ever? It might feel like the idea of letting your thoughts go is meant for “normal” people and that does not include you. Maybe you stand guard to keep yourself from your worst case, as if your attention to your thoughts keeps you from descending into unimaginable fear. I can help you sift through the noise and regain your confidence in yourself.

I often see driven professionals in high-pressure environments. Many of my clients are men, trying therapy for the first time or continuing work they've already started. Clients generally come to see me to work through stress, anxiety (especially social anxiety), depression, life transitions and trauma. Many of my clients find my practice after years of struggling with symptoms of depression, anxiety, having a harsh inner critic, or addictions. Unresolved trauma is often the underlying problem, when as children we learned to distance ourselves from our innate higher Self in an effort to “fit in.” I guide clients in listening to their own inner voices, reconnecting to their soul-longings and restoring a more authentically connected existence to the world around them. LGBTQI+ affirming practice.

Reaching out for help is one of the most humbling experiences we can go through in life. In a world that is constantly pushing narratives on us based on race, gender, sexuality and/or dominant cultural beliefs, it is life-affirming to engage preferred narratives that support and empower our own values. In difficult times it is easy to feel misunderstood or lost, longing to reconnect with our own resources. My work aims for those reconnections.

“I don’t like how that made me feel.” It’s one thing to realize when someone makes us feel badly about ourselves. And yet, it’s so much more challenging to know what to do next. Maybe you don’t want to disrupt things with them too much. But you also know what happened wasn’t okay. And you don’t want them to keep treating you that way. Or feel the thoughts, feelings, and emotions that come up when they do. Your needs matter too. You have a right to feel affirmed, supported, and understood.
