Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Fullerton, CA
Experiencing upsetting life events can affect the ways our brains and nervous systems operate. I teach my clients this to reduce the shame that may be associated with their behaviors and help them to begin to feel safe within themselves and with others to begin taking the steps toward healing and growth.
EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. It is globally recognized as an effective way to treat trauma and other upsetting life events. EMDRIA describes EMDR as “therapy [that] does not require talking in detail about the distressing issue or completing homework between sessions. EMDR therapy…allows the brain to resume its natural healing process.” To learn more, please visit the EMDRIA website.
Parental involvement in therapy is vital to the healing and effectiveness of a child’s treatment. As social beings, we develop our understanding of who we are, who others are, and how safe the world is in our earliest relationship experiences. Having a parent’s presence in therapy can give the child the opportunity to sort out and make sense of earlier life events that may be contributing to their present day challenges.
I provide therapy services to adults who are looking to break old family patterns that are no longer serving them. Through collaborative work, we will identify wounds that occurred in the formative years or passed down from previous generations and heal those hurt younger parts that impede you from living the life you desire. The goal is to discover, reconnect, and strengthen the person you were always meant to be.
I believe that many of our present day difficulties are created when we have unmet needs in a relationship. In these instances, the most effective antidote is meeting needs in a safe, supportive relationship. That could mean the therapeutic relationship, the relationship between a parent and child, or the relationship we, as adults, have with our younger parts. These relationships become the catalysts and containers for our healing and expansion.
