About My Clients
I help overwhelmed people cope with challenges, improve relationships, and have a more fulfilling life. My clients want to learn how to cope with stress, to not let their emotions overwhelm them, how to skillfully ask for what they need in their relationships, to confidently communicate a kind and firm no when setting boundaries at work or in their personal life, and chose a direction for their life that guides them to do the things that can make their life more meaningful.
My Background and Approach
Both my personal and professional experiences have shaped my work as a therapist. My personal experience includes growing up as a child of Taiwanese immigrants, living overseas in Europe as an adult, and parenting my teens. My professional experience includes providing individual, family, and group counseling at Duke University Medical Center, Elon University Counseling Center, and multiple behavioral health agencies. I provide therapy by using evidence-based treatments in an environment that is welcoming, nonjudgmental, and affirming.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe in providing my clients with a safe and secure environment where they can make real progress in learning the skills and tools to have healthy relationships and reach their goals. Social justice and giving back to my community have long been an important part of my life. I am involved with a non-profit civil rights group in advocating for voter rights, as well as science education for a local museum, and volunteering at a yearly local science fiction and fantasy convention. When I am not providing therapy, I like to walk out in nature, take road trips, watch sci-fi shows and movies, and try out new restaurants.
