Cognitive Behavioral Therapy helps us to become aware of the thoughts that we have, and how they influence how we feel and behave. I often have clients consider thoughts that lead to feelings of anxiety, and/or depression. In looking at that thought, we can determine if it is true, or if there is a truth that it needs to be replaced with. Doing this with my clients, helps them to challenge wrong thinking that may arise in their everyday lives.

I believe in the mind-body connection, and often use meditation and mindfulness techniques in session with my clients. This pulls the mind back from the past, away from the future, and into the only moment that is real...the present. Here and now is the only place where change, and healing can take place. I am currently being trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing therapy. This is a useful approach to help clients heal from not only trauma, but a variety of mental health challenges. This approach allows the mind to heal, and often lessens the emotional charge associated with memories, and beliefs.

I often use mindfulness techniques and cognitive-behavioral therapy to help clients who experience anxiety. Mindfulness is helpful because it helps people to leave the worry and rumination of the mind, and inhabit the body in the present moment. I sometimes invite my clients to "come back to the room." This is a reminder that the regret of the past and the anxious anticipation of the future that is causing distress is not real in this moment. Come back to the room, and heal from here.

When treating clients who are contending with depression, I most often use cognitive-behavioral therapy. This form of therapy will help you to begin to notice, and challenge the thoughts and beliefs that you hold about yourself and your life situation that are causing you distress.

I have experience helping clients with both PTSD and complex trauma. I am Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) trained. Clients who have experienced trauma find this form of therapy helpful because it creates a new perspective on an old memory or incident. After completing the process of EMDR therapy, clients often find that they are left with the same memories, but the emotional charge that was once attached to them are no longer there.
