About My Clients
You feel anxious and terrified that your last job was your last job. You don’t feel old. You feel more confident, more comfortable in your own skin, and at the same time less valued than ever. Ageism can make us feel burned out, no longer valued, and leave us with a loss of identity. Transitions can be scary but also an opportunity to think about what we really want for our next chapter of life. I want to help and support you in curating your future
My Background and Approach
As a former creative professional, I found many of my peers were experiencing ageism, burn out and loss of identity as they got older. To help them, I created a therapy and support group Ageism and the Creative Professional. In sessions, I like to work together with you to identify patterns from the past are impacting your life now. We’ll look at what’s working for you as well as the what used to work for you but is no longer helping. I feel the client/therapist relationship is key in that it often reflects how you are in relationships outside of the session. Life transitions, while frightening, can be an exciting time. You can really examine what you want your life to look like for the next chapter. I am science based, and we will look at what happens to your brain chemistry when you feel anxious or fearful. Then I’ll teach you skills to reduce feelings of overwhelm.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I spent 30 years as a creative professional and loved it. When things slowed down, I went back to school and got my master’s degree in clinical psychology at age 60. People now routinely live to 100. My own, very active and lucid, 97-year-old father made me realize I had a lot of years left. I wanted to fill them doing something that I not only enjoyed but would be meaningful to me. I believe age is just a construct and if we ignore the number, we can do great things. It’s important to me to out ageism, and make older people more visible, honored for their wisdom and given respect. When not working with clients, I love to get my hands in clay and create things. Ceramics has taught me so much and fulfills my need to create and gives me a wonderful community of co-creators. I live with my husband and son in Los Angeles.
