About My Clients
There are many reasons eating disorders are invited into your life. Just as there are many reasons why a person develops an eating disorder, the way you recover will be just as unique. If there was a one size fits all solution, that would perhaps be as deceptive as the problem itself. Whether it’s perfectionism, judgment, loneliness, self-improvement, health, fear, family issues… Together we will discover what invites these problems into your life, and begin to find what recovery means for you.
My Background and Approach
Combining clinical and lived experience with a love of social justice, my passion to help others find recovery and healing is integrated into each part of my work. I have been actively involved in the eating disorder field for over a decade, and have provided therapy at a variety of community counseling centers, treatment facilities, and in private practice. I love working closely with individuals to discover and connect to their hopes, values, passions, and interests outside of the problem, and support them in re-(dis)covering what their “anti-eating disorder” life will look like.” Rooted in a desire for social change, my therapeutic approach is grounded in Narrative theory, an evolving set of ideas & practices, which embrace a collaborative, non-pathologizing, culturally-sensitive, & respectful approach to working with people, families, & communities. I also employ a critical feminist, anti-oppression, Health At Every Size, fat positive, trauma-informed, anti-diet, approach.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I know what it’s like to feel like there's no way out. To worry that you're destined to live an ensnared life in a constant battle with food, exercise, & your body. I also know what it is like to have someone else believe in your ability to recover when no one else (including yourself) has any hope left. For someone else to see you outside the obsession with food & weight, the anxious thoughts, the self-doubt, the fear. I know this because I have witnessed many who have freed themselves who at one point had thought it was hopeless. My goal is to be someone who holds the hope for you & your ability to live without an eating disorder. I believe in the magic of relationships. I'm a proud plant parent to abt 150 indoor plants (& growing), & dog mum to the BEST GSP ever, Aspen. Want to meet him? He makes appearances in my sessions both over zoom & in walk + talk sessions. I'm an activist in the fight against weight stigma, body discrimination, eating disorder awareness, & media advocacy.
