About My Clients
Therapy can- and should- be tailored to your (or your child's) styles of communication and expression. Maybe this means you'd like a lot of structure during sessions- using worksheets to track and review anxious thought patterns. It could mean that you'd prefer open-ended sessions to explore deeper themes that've started popping up in your life. Or perhaps you're looking for a safe space to talk about a difficult experience that you just don't want to talk about with with friends or family.
My Background and Approach
I specialize in treating trauma and all the tough stuff that comes with it- bad moods, anxiety, explosive anger, poor self-esteem, sadness- you name it. I teach my clients skills to help them feel better in the moment while guiding them on a path of long-term healing. I provide my clients with info to help normalize what they're going through so they feel less alone (also called psychoeducation). Next, I teach techniques for feeling better, also known as coping skills. That way, when they're reminded of a bad thing that's happened, they have the ability to make themselves feel better before their emotions grow out of control. From there, we work on understanding the connection between thoughts, feelings, and behaviors and how to change unhelpful thought patterns. Then, my client gets a chance to tell their story, to talk about what happened in the safe space of a therapeutic relationship.
