I believe that many clients come to therapy with symptoms related to a traumatic experience. I help individuals of all ages to manage the physical and psychological symptoms of trauma.
If you have experienced intense life events, you may be familiar with experiences like chronic forgetfulness, regularly "zoning out," feeling out of place in your body, or feeling emotions that seem to come out of nowhere. These may be related to dissociation, a symptom that I believe many therapist fail to screen for when treating clients. Some clients who have been in therapy for years with little to no improvement may be stuck behind dissociative symptoms.
I think about anxiety from a neurobiological perspective as the brain's way of protecting the body from future harm. While the brain's intentions are good, it's methods no longer work in our modern world! Together, I will work with you to help your brain and body feel safe so that you can feel more at ease throughout your day and stop jumping out of your seat every time you hear a door slam.
I believe that many clients who come to therapy because of experiences with anxiety and depression may be having a reasonable reaction to traumatic experiences. I practice trauma-informed therapy to get to the root cause of your symptoms, instead of recommending bandaid solutions.
Mindfulness has been used for centuries by cultures all over the world to manage anxiety, stress, depression, and fear. I combine techniques from modern scientific investigation with centuries old practices to help each client implement mindfulness into their daily routine.
