Most of the people I have worked with have satisfied the criteria for PTSD, even though all of their experiences were wildly different! As a trauma therapist, I initially assume that a traumatic experience is at the root of most human suffering and is the cause of the majority of symptoms such as anxiety, depression, addiction, etc. I engage in ongoing education to be an active helper at every phase of the recovery process.
I have been passionate about body-centered psychotherapy for many years as a holistic modality. I've completed Sensorimotor Psychotherapy Levels 1 + 2 for trauma and attachment wounds. It has been life-changing for both myself and all of my clients! SP is a trauma-informed and somatic-based talk therapy that allows us to study the entire range of our human experience with compassion and nonjudgment.
I completed my graduate school internship at a DBT-focused clinic in Portland. I have completed continuing education in doing DBT-informed therapy, including co-facilitation of multiple DBT Skills group and providing individual DBT Skills coaching for individuals. I love incorporating DBT skills in the initial stages of therapy to expand your toolkit with hands-on and real tools that work!
Mindfulness in therapy allows us to notice our patterned responses, slow down, and get more in tune with our internal and external experiences both in and out of the therapy room. I have been personally practicing and guiding others in meditation for the last 5 years. We can explore the past's effects on our present moment and learn to work with where we are right now.
Most of the people I have worked with satisfied the criteria for a PTSD diagnosis, even though each of their experiences was wildly different. As a trauma therapist, I usually assume some time of traumatic experience is a huge cause of suffering in someone's life and is one of the essential root causes of a huge list of symptoms. I have completed training in the treatment of trauma from the Sensorimotor Psychotherapy Institute and continue to engage in continued education in this area.
Being a woman in this world is hard! It's important you work with someone that understands the array of challenges women are faced with from the time they are born and throughout life. I have the most experience working directly with women in both individual counseling and in womens-based recovery circles. I am passionate about helping women process their experiences of womanhood, motherhood, sexuality, challenges in the workforce, and overcoming trauma so they can live empowered lives.
You don't need to hit rock-bottom to start working on yourself and facing the patterns, emotions, and behaviors that are getting in your way. Focusing on personal development means working on connecting to your authentic self so you can live the life you truly want! We do this work collaboratively and creatively to set you up with an expanded toolkit. It's important to explore past and present experiences to better define what it is you want for your future self.
